Holladay was established in 1847 and was the first village settled outside of Salt Lake City. Even so, Holladay was not incorporated as a city until the end of 1999. Population numbers 25,527 and there are around 9,117 households. Renters make up 17% of the population and the median income in the city is $81,875. The different seasons allow temperatures to reach 92 degrees in the summer and drop to 22 in the winter. Because the city is close to the mountains, they receive about 52 inches of snow and 19 inches of rain annually.

Back in the sixties, the cottonwood mall was built in the area and was one of the first of its kind in the west. Just recently, a redevelopment of the mall has been put underway and will include retail shops, restaurants, group gathering places, and all types of entertainment. The main section is expected to be completed in 2010. The people benefit from many community events such as the Heart of Holladay 5k run held annually.
