The South Jordan area was settled about 12 years after the pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley. South Jordan was incorporated in 1935 and 25 years later had a population of 1,300. Growth has steadily continued and the current population is 54,124, increasing more than 50% since the year 2000. 10% of the population rents and there are about 9,300 households. Temperature in South Jordan is normally a July high of 92 and a January low of 19. Each year, 45 inches of snow and 14 inches of rain fall. Several community activities are held, especially in the summer time. The main community event is called Country Fest and includes: a carnival, 5K run, parade, car show, helicopter rides, different types of entertainment, and much more. All year long the Gale Center of History and Culture is devoted to remembering the history of the city. Parks are spread throughout the city with a wide range of amenities. One of the parks even has fish ponds. A recreation center provides swimming, fitness activities, and a several classes including dance, martial arts, and even singing.
